In one of our most powerful efforts to expand access to in-demand healthcare careers, Identity, in partnership with the Hispanic Institute of Montgomery College, added two new cohorts so far this year to Introduction to Patient Care, also referred to as a Pre-CNA (pre-Certified Nursing Assistant.)

Thirty-six aspiring healthcare professionals are now actively building the skills, confidence, and community they need to work in the health sector – in addition to the 23 clients who have already completed the course - 11 of whom have passed further training and earned their CNA certification.

The Pre-CNA course is a 48-hour, Spanish-language training course that prepares students for work as nursing assistants. It supports individuals with experience or strong interest in nursing who face English language barriers.

Although the Pre‑CNA course does not confer certification, it builds a strong foundation in participants’ native language. It is paired with tailored Pre‑CNA ESOL classes to ensure students develop the English skills needed to successfully complete a formal CNA certification program, ultimately strengthening both clinical knowledge and English proficiency.

Identity’s Workforce Development Manager, Daniela Torrico observed something just as meaningful happening beyond the classroom. “Participants are supporting one another, sharing experiences, and creating a professional network rooted in shared goals and resilience.” This unique program is possible thanks to support from the Healthcare Initiative Foundation and Montgomery College.
