On September 13th, the BlackRock Center for the Arts was alive with joy, pride and powerful stories of perseverance as Identity celebrated the graduation of 19 GED students. Surrounded by supportive guests, including proud parents, children, and grandparents the event marked a major milestone for young adults who refused to give up on their dreams.

Identity’s GED program, offered in both English and Spanish, serves a multicultural community of students who bring diverse backgrounds and experiences to the classroom. The average GED journey takes about 18 months to complete, making this achievement no small feat, many of whom have overcome significant hurdles to reach this point.
Recent graduate Maria, 20, moved the crowd with a powerful reflection on second chances. “Today, we are all winners,” she said. “Because a winner is someone who never stops trying.”
Johanna Caba, GED Instructor at Identity’s Up-County Youth Opportunity Center, also delivered a heartfelt speech honoring the graduates’ strength and resilience. “You held your heads high and fought to the end. Yours is a testament to giving yourself another chance. As many chances as you need.”
The event served not only as a celebration, but as a launchpad for what comes next. “This is just the beginning for us,” said recent graduate Tyrone, 23, in his graduation speech. “Remember, success isn’t measured by what you have, but by how many times you get back up after being knocked down.”
Whether heading to college, trade school, or the workforce, these graduates now carry with them a symbol of their determination: a high school diploma earned with courage, grit and the support of the community.
Congratulations to the GED Class of 2025! You did it!
