Back to School Backpack Supply Drive & Assembly

Returning to school will be challenging for many students. It will be especially difficult for students who are living with heightened levels of fear and anxiety and in families experiencing poverty. One small but proven way we can increase the likelihood of academic success and support attendance and school connectedness is to provide them a new backpack with the supplies they need and in-person welcome from caring adults. Our goal is to fill 900-1,000 backpacks (25% more than last year) with age- appropriate supplies and personal notes of encouragement for students enrolled in elementary, middle and high school, or in GED and workforce training programs.​

Full backpacks cost, on average, $60 each and will be assembled by volunteers on August 11, 12 and 13. They will be distributed at schools across Montgomery County or dropped off at students’ homes before school starts.
